So here it is, the baby Jaguar saloon. Sitting below the XF as the smallest saloon and cheapest car Jaguar now makes. The XE is looking to taking on the BMW 3 series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C class. Jaguar will offer five engine choices such as a 2.0 161BHP Turbo Diesel, a 2.0 litre petrol with optional power outputs and even the superchagred 3.0 V6 will be available in the XES model.
So what about styling? Well it is a good looking car but it lacks the muscular cool image of the XF, the XE is more restrained which is not such a bad thing. Yes a BMW 3 series has more lines and angles but the XE draws less attention to itself, it's more discreet. Then there is the interior. It's just like the XJ and XF, spacious and trimmed in your choice of piano black finish and a variety of wooden choices and brushed aluminium. It also has less buttons scattered around the centre console which gives the car a neater looking interior than the BMW and Audi. As far as space goes it looks to have lots leg room in the back and as seen in these photo's the seats are available as half leather half alcantara with nice big side supports so it should be comfortable on those long journey's.As far as equipment goes the XE will feature LED running daylights, sat nav, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, speed limit indicator and a forward facing camera for traffic sign recognition. The eight inch touchscreen will also feature Jaguar InControl apps for Apple or Android phones which will give access to Internet radio, traffic information, news and navigation. It also has a fancy dial that rises out of the centre console which is the gear selector and a standard push button ignition.
Starting prices are thought to be around €37,000 for the base model diesel and with the possibility of more options to come in the future. Sales are expected in May 2015.
